Phil Cea - Cancer Journey Ahead

Phil Cea

November 16, 2024

Dear Softball Family, Yesterday, we spoke with a relatively new member of our club. Phil Cea is looking forward to retirement and playied on co-ed. Unfortunately, he was recently diagnosed with cancer. A cyst on the top of his head was determined to be malignant. He will undergo treatment in the near future.

Phil would like to continue to help out in the crows nest with scorekeeping and anything he can to be an active part of our club. Let's be in prayer for Phil and encourage him while he begins his health journey.

All the best, Phil!

Ron Wiebold - Surgery and Recovery Update

Ron Wiebold

We have been thinking about Ron and Kayla. They have been going through some health stuff recently. Today we reached out to Ron following Monday's surgery. Surgeons removed one of his kidneys (cancerous). He is home recovering. He and Kayla went for a walk today. Family is there with them helping out. He expects to recover and be back out on the field in 4-6 weeks.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Wiebold's as Kayla continues to feel better and better. And, for Ron to find comfort as he recovers and heals and looks forward to full strength again.

In Update - A Loving Message from Kathryn

Kathryn McCormack
November 8, 2024

Dear Softball Family, We received this beautiful update from Kathryn. She would like to let us all know about her health. Let's be reminded that our prayer filled concern for one another is a gift we give to those who travel the journey that looks for healing and resolve. Thank you, Kathryn, for your giving nature and your life that inspires us.

Words from Kathryn: "As many of you know I had a cancer diagnosis in June 2022 and it was aggressive and it came back 3 months after my surgery to remove it. I wanted to write and update for awhile with my good news of "No evidence of disease" in my liver on my last 2 scans! If you want to know more of my story or how to get connected with the Healing Strong group that helped me you can keep reading.

November 1 2022, I started drinking carrot/beet/celery juice pretty much every day, started exercising more regularly and cut out animal protein and sugar while I fought the cancer that had already recurred from my surgery earlier that summer when they "got it all". My liver surgeon offered to do surgery again on the new nodule in my liver and I now had 2 small nodules in my lungs and one in my kidney that was apparently a different kind of cancer. They said I was just unlucky having 2 cancers.... My oncologist (who moved away thankfully the next summer) told me it was my last Thanksgiving in 2022 and I might not make it to Jack's 60th birthday in April 2023. However, doctors aren't always right and God had a different plan for my life.... My scan in January 2023 showed the nodule in my liver got smaller and the oncologist said she had NEVER seen bile duct cancer reverse before but still offered for me to start on the chemo pill she had previously told us I would die whether I took it or not. We said no (again) to that $36,000/month chemo pill. The next year of scans were mostly stable which is a good word in the cancer world I learned and fast forward to April 2024, my scan showed NO nodules in my liver... Yes all gone and previously the lung nodules had disappeared in March 2023 and the kidney nodule has remained stable. Halleluiah was our response. Every day I wake up with literally a new lease on life for an extended time on earth to try and use the gifts God gave me to be a blessing to others.

I wanted to also mention two people who fought cancer that are now in heaven... Gerry Hess (Nolan's wife) who was at my first Healing Strong support group in summer 2023 and the loveable Tracy Buttars who always had a smile and a laugh at the field and Jack (my husband) got to be on a winning team with him one season.

If you want any information on the Healing Strong support group that helped me on my journey please email or call me. I have a group that meets at our house once a month and I provide organic salad & 5 minute shoulder massages and we support each other on our journeys. Email is jackandkath@yahoo.com. Phone # 928 925 0991.

In case you are still reading... wanted to also share this EVEN IF song link below... Even If God didn't heal me and I headed to heaven after my cancer fight like Gerry and Tracy, I had hope and tried to smile every day. This is chorus from one of my favorite bands Mercy Me... The song is called Even if.....

I know you're able and I know you can save through the fire with Your mighty hand But even if You don't My hope is You alone!!!" Click here for the music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6fA35Ved-Y

Michael "Mick" Conway - Passed Away

August 2, 1949-August 31, 2024

Dear Softball Family,

The last email sent out to you all was about the sad news of Mick’s passing. He left us on August 31st. Today, after some time was given to the family, I was able to connect with Mick’s daughter Liz. We shared a lovely conversation about the hard details of Mick’s illness that led to his death. We also talked about how much he connected so well with softball since he moved here to Sun City. It was good for her to hear your words in some of the emails I received…Mick was beloved and his passing is leaving an empty place with us. He is missed.

Mick battled cancer and made a valiant comeback last season. Recently the cancer returned metastasized to the bone. After some consideration, he decided to have chemo treatments again. After his first week of treatment he became sick, weak and his heart was affected. The family believes the chemo cut his time short. After a fall, he was hospitalized for 14 days where and the family was told he’d have about 4 weeks of life with in-home hospice. He passed away after a difficult 14 days.

During that time at home his daughters Liz and Christy learned of his wish is for the softball family to enjoy a “Kegger on the Micker”. Given that, a Celebration of Life is being planned by way of a “Mick Conway Spring Fling” at the Sun City Softball Facility sometime in February or March. The family, Liz, Christy and 3 sons, will provide lunch; place, date and time to be decided. As soon as we have details worked out, count on being kept informed. In the mean time, let's continue to pray for Mick’s family in their time of grief.
